Flippity! Flappity! Flutter!
I recognize that sound! There it goes again. Flippity! Flappity Flutter!
Oh can it be? I step forward into the pumpkin patch to get a better look, with my tall black rain boots sinking into the dark muddy earth. All of a sudden something whizzes past my head with lightning speed, then circles around my crown and slows down. Flippity! Flappity! Flutter!
Floating on Autumns hauntingly cool evening air is a small fairy named Polly Pumpkin Blossom...I’d recognize her anywhere. Polly must be tending to all the October pumpkins. She checks on them every night to make sure they are growing up to be big, round and pumpkin orange bright.
Polly’s three friends, who follow her like shadows are nearby, a black cat named Lilith and two little ghost named Alchemy and Ta-Boo. Lilith is always helpful and wise, but Alchemy and Ta-Boo well that’s a whole other story. Most of the time these two little apparitions can be seen scaring poor little night creatures with their bellowing boos. Why, once they scared me right out of my shoes!
I watch Polly as she flutters her soft green pumpkin leaf wings, she hovers, then quickly darts around the rows of pumpkins that lie tenderly on the ground. She checks each one with her keen eye, then...Flippity! Flappity! Flutter! She’s gone! Goodbye!
Goodbye Polly and friends, goodbye! Until next October and we meet again, when the moon is high and the evening air is filled with a chill. Flippity! Flappity! Flutter! Goodbye….
